Accessibility

Boston Playwrights’ Theatre strives to make our space available to all theatre-goers. However, our older building does offer some limitations. If you or a member of your party have mobility limitations, please contact us in advance to plan your visit at 617-353-5443, or email Box Office Manager K. Alexa Mavromatis at kamavrom@bu.edu.

We have a long ramp up to the front door. Please note that the grade is steep and the threshold is slightly raised. For this reason we encourage anyone with mobility concerns to bring an attendant. The additional ticket will be complimentary. If an attendant is not available, please call in advance and a member of our staff will meet you at the ramp to help you in or out of the theatre. We frequently welcome patrons and artists who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices, and are always happy to assist in whatever way we can.

One gender-neutral, wheelchair-accessible bathroom is available.

wheelchairs inside the theatres

All seats are removable at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Wheelchairs can be positioned in the front row of either black box space (the Walcott or Snodgrass Stages). Please let us know if you use a wheelchair, and we will reserve as many seats near that space as your party requires.

Our seats are made of hard plastic and do not have armrests. Seats in both theatres measure approximately 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with approximately two inches between seats. Legroom in the Snodgrass Theatre is approximately 23 inches with the exception of the front row; legroom in the smaller Walcott Theatre ranges from six to 12 inches, not including the front row. If you need extra space, please let us know in advance.

It is recommended that patrons suffering from chronic back problems bring a pillow to increase comfort.

AUDIO/VIDEO ACCESSIBILITY

We do not offer headsets, and our actors are typically not mic’d. The space is intimate, and we are happy to reserve front-row seats for you. We do not currently offer ASL-interpreted or audio-described performances. Please email newplays@bu.edu to request a copy of the script in advance to support accessibility needs.

front row requests

If for any reason, you can enjoy the performance from only the front row, please let us know directly at 617-353-5443 or email Box Office Manager K. Alexa Mavromatis at kamavrom@bu.edu.
